Quotes on 6-5-99.htm were spoken by the following people. I put additional quotes on this page from my notes, which there was not room for on the other page. I put my additions into [brackets] where it was needed for clarity:

* [headline] Bill Dores, DC Mobilization to Stop the War (-- from Rally at the Pentagon in Washington, DC, shown on C-SPAN), who also said:

"this is a war for corporate profits"

"We have to close down that cancerous tumor over there [points toward the Pentagon] that sucks up so much of our tax dollars, money that could go for health care, education... "

5. Brian Becker, at the WA DC rally.

----------

Rest of quotes are from the rally in San Francisco at Dolores Park.

1. Jim Lafferty
"...genocide to make Yugoslavia safe for western capitalism"
he also brought up the oil in the Caspian Sea, among other people, and this was also mentioned on the C-SPAN broadcast of the Washington DC rally.

2. Richard Becker
"Madeline Albright, in deep cover (leaked by George Kenney(?), told co-workers, on the subject of February's "Rambouillet Agreement, "We have set the barrier too high for the Serbs to accept. They need some bombing and they are going to get it."

3. Michael Crichton
"Yugoslavia was the only country in Eastern Europe that didn't voluntarily strip itself of its social system -- so it had to be demolished."

4. Sorry but I couldn't understand the name given over the PA system.

The following speakers were not mentioned on the other page, but deserve space (I wish that I could quote more of the speakers):

Hear Pamela Africa speaking in Washington DC, 6/5/99

Shani speaks at KPFA Free Speech rally on 7/14/99
Shani Rupati, from Pristina, a "Roma" (Gypsy): "I am here to honor my Yugoslavian people" ... "They say, 'We must resolve the humanitarian crisis' and they level my country, where I grew up for 27 years, to the ground" ... "This lie is costing billions and billions of dollars. Americans are also victims. $13 billion to destroy a country. This money comes from food stamps, [etc.]. There are 1.2 million Roma in former Yugoslavia. The Roma are being denied aid in refugee shelters (Red Cross). Why? Are we not human beings?" He went on to ask for funds for medical aid for the Roma, which he was going to personally carry back because he did not trust any agency to help his people.

Jan Ervin asked "Who are the Serbs?" With the news media in this country equating Milosevic to Hitler, Serbs to Nazis, he went around Yugoslavia [year? --didn't get it written down] trying to find out about these "demons, barbarians, rapists, etc.", and didn't find anybody like that. Then Jan Ervin spoke about the tribute given by Woodrow Wilson to the "gallant people of Serbia, who rather than submit, drove Austria back twice [WWI] -- a people who would sacrifice everything for their love of freedom ... to resist the aims of the Germanic people to dominate the world". Jan Ervin also pointed out that the KLA are heroin smugglers [as have many others pointed this out, as have been so many other factions that were backed by the CIA]. "In 1986 Dole sponsored bill #_________ that set into motion the demise of Yugoslavia; it resulted in the 1991 trade agreement that brought about the civil wars ..." "Switzerland, Finland and Yugoslavia were the last countries in Europe not occupied by NATO forces."

There were two speakers from Puerto Rico, one at SF and one on the C-SPAN broadcast from WA DC, who spoke movingly of bombing practice on their islands, where there is "the highest rate of cancer in the world"... 24/7 bombing practice since ___" From the island of Bieqqes, PR, "we know when there is gonna be a war, we don't know where it's gonna be but we know, because they start throwing hard ... We want NATO and the Navy out of Bieqqes, out of Yugoslavia, and out of the WORLD, NOW!"
